Feed The Bear
Privacy Policy
Effective October 28, 2026
Feed The Bear is made by NyxCollective LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the Feed The Bear app and website collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Questions: support@feed-the-bear.com.
The short version
- Your spots, ratings, dishes and photos are saved on your device. If you create an account, they're also backed up to our database so you can use them on any device.
- We use your location only while the app is open, to show places near you.
- We don't sell your information, and we don't show ads.
- You can delete your account and data at any time, from the app or this page.
What we collect
Things you give us
- Account details: your email address, or your Google name and email if you sign in with Google. Your password is handled by Google Firebase; we never see it.
- Your food diary: restaurants you save, ratings, notes, dishes, visit dates, photos and short videos, lists, and profile choices like your name and bear avatar.
- Things you share: if you share your profile link, the people who have it can see your recent visits, saved spots and favorite dishes. Shared lists are visible to anyone with that list's link.
- Payments: if you upgrade to Grizzly, Stripe processes your payment. We receive a customer ID and your plan, not your card details.
Things collected as you use the app
- Location: if you allow it, your device's location while the app is open. It's used to find nearby restaurants and to remind you when a spot on your list is close. We don't store a history of where you've been.
- Usage counts: anonymous daily totals of feature use (for example, "spots added: 42"), with no user ID, so we know what to improve.
- Basic technical data: our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP address and browser type, for security and troubleshooting.
How we use it
- To run the app: save and back up your diary, show nearby places, and look up ratings, hours and photos.
- To provide Grizzly features, including Byte Cub AI suggestions and summaries.
- To process payments and manage your subscription.
- To keep the service secure and fix problems.
Who we share it with
We share only what each service needs to do its job for us:
- Google Firebase: sign-in and the database that backs up your diary.
- Vercel: hosts the website and our server functions.
- Google Maps Platform (Places): receives a restaurant's name and approximate location to return its rating, hours and photos.
- OpenStreetMap services (Nominatim, Overpass): receive a location or address to find nearby restaurants and map addresses.
- Foursquare and Yelp: may receive a restaurant's name and location to find a photo of it.
- Google Gemini: for Grizzly AI features, receives the text needed to answer, such as restaurant names and your request.
- Stripe: payments and subscriptions.
- Wikimedia Commons: dish photos are loaded from it.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others. If NyxCollective LLC is involved in a merger or sale, your information may be transferred, and this policy will continue to apply to it.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data until you delete it or your account. When you delete your account, your data is removed from our database right away, and any Grizzly subscription is cancelled. Anonymous usage counts are kept because they can't be linked to you.
Your choices and rights
- See and export your data: in the app, open your profile and choose Export My Data.
- Correct it: edit or delete any spot, note or photo in the app.
- Stop sharing: in Foodie Friends, choose Stop sharing.
- Location: you can turn off location access in your device or browser settings at any time.
- Delete your account: in the app, open your profile and choose Delete Account, or follow the steps on our account deletion page.
Depending on where you live (for example California, or the EU and UK), you may have additional rights, such as to access, correct or delete your data, or to object to how it's used. Email support@feed-the-bear.com and we'll respond within 30 days.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and is stored with Google Firebase. Database rules let each account read and change only its own data. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password.
Children
Feed The Bear is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll let you know in the app.
